The Convocation concludes with a banquet at which deacons are recognized who have served for 5, 10, 15, etc., years of service.


Speakers

Most Reverend Erik Pohlmeier Bishop of St. Augustine, Florida

Born on July 20, 1971, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bishop Erik Pohlmeier is the son of a Permanent Deacon and also has a brother who is a Permanent Deacon. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1998 in Arkansas and appointed the 11th Bishop of St. Augustine, Florida, in 2022. While in Little Rock, Arkansas, he served as the Director of the Office of Deacon Formation from 2015 to 2022, as well as Assistant Vocations Director from 2008 to 2016. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy through Saint Meinrad College, Indiana, a Bachelor’s Degree in Sacred Theology from Gregorian University, Rome, and a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Theology from the University of Thomas Aquinas, Rome.


Monsignor Charles Singler Pastor of St. Rose Parish in Perrysburg

Monsignor Charles Singler was born on June 16, 1958, in Sandusky. Upon graduation from high school, he enrolled at St. Gregory Seminary College in Cincinnati, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1980. He continued his seminary formation at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary of the West in Cincinnati where he earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1984. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 1984, by the late Bishop James R. Hoffman. Since ordination, he completed a Master of Arts degree at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN (1994) and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN (2006). In addition to active memberships on a number of diocesan committees past and present, he has served as a parochial vicar, pastor, rector of our diocesan cathedral, seminary formator, director of the diocesan office of worship, and director of diocesan priestly vocations. Monsignor Singler currently serves as Pastor of St. Rose Parish in Perrysburg.
